Mount Vernon Drivers Education LLC (MVDE) was established in July of 2009 to fulfill the needs of families in the Mount Vernon community and surrounding areas. The goal was to provide convenient sessions throughout the year, allowing families flexibility and the ability to work around their busy schedules. MVDE is bonded, fully licensed and approved by the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
We continue to strive to provide top notch drivers education that is both convenient and flexible. We offer Fall and Spring sessions, in addition to our Summer program. The school year sessions last three weeks, while the summer classes are completed in two weeks. Drives schedule are established prior to the start of classes in order to alot students drive times that fit into their lives. We make every attempt to work around each student’s preferred schedule. Driving instruction includes highway, city, rural roads and parking lots.
Since 2009, we have expanded to the following locations: Anamosa, Atkins, Cedar Rapids, Ely, Fairfax, Iowa City, Marion, Mount Vernon, North Liberty, and Solon. Our growth has focused on the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor.
As the company has grown over the years, we have continually placed the focus on the education of the students above everything else. Class sizes are limited to ensure the learning environment is maximized. As our logo says, “We put the student in the driver’s seat.”.
We are all fully licensed and state approved by the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Transportation. Additionally, we are bonded.
- Our program consists of 30 hours of classroom(or online) and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.
- A minimum of four hours of instruction concerning substance abuse
- A minimum of twenty minutes of instruction concerning railroad crossing safety
- Instruction relating to becoming an organ donor.
- Instruction providing awareness about sharing the road with bicycles and motorcycles.
